VEA Capital Partners Backs Bonisa Applied Insights to Unlock Data-Driven Value Globally

Cape Town: September 2026: VEA Capital Partners (VCP), the private investment arm of VEA Group, has announced a strategic investment in Bonisa Applied Insights (Bonisa AI), acquiring a stake in the South African data science and artificial intelligence business.

This investment marks VCP’s latest move to back businesses with the technology, talent and ambition to solve real-world commercial challenges and positions Bonisa AI for its next phase of growth as demand for sophisticated, data-driven decision-making accelerates globally.

Bonisa AI sits at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence and commercial decision-making. The company combines diverse data sets, advanced data science, bespoke AI and deep commercial expertise to help businesses turn complex data into measurable commercial outcomes and make better, faster decisions with confidence and peace of mind.

Bonisa AI serves clients across retail, banking, telecommunications and a range of other industries and sectors, with expertise spanning credit scoring, fraud modelling, alternative data modelling and decisioning.

A key differentiator is the depth of scientific expertise within the business, with multiple PhDs across the team. This highly scientific approach underpins Bonisa AI’s ability to tackle complex data challenges and develop practical solutions tailored to specific commercial environments.

“We are not chasing AI for the sake of AI. We are solving hard commercial problems, using data and technology to create measurable outcomes. We see enormous potential in what Bonisa AI has built and, importantly, in the team behind it,” said Zander de Witt, co-founder and managing director of VEA Capital Partners.

The partnership will focus on accelerating Bonisa AI’s commercial expansion, strengthening its technology and data science capabilities, expanding its enterprise offering, and pursuing opportunities to take its solutions into new markets and industries.

A particular area of focus will be the continued development and commercialisation of decisioning as a service, as businesses increasingly seek sophisticated data-driven solutions that can work across their existing data environments while maintaining control, transparency and human oversight.

Bonisa AI also works with credit bureau data as a registered reseller, combining bureau information with alternative data sources to create additional value for clients. By bringing together traditional and alternative data, the business helps organisations enhance and improve their existing credit models and make more informed decisions.

Bonisa AI’s CEO, Jacobus Eksteen, said, “In VEA Capital Partners and the VEA Group, we’ve found partners who don’t just provide capital; they genuinely try to understand our business, share our ambition and roll up their sleeves to help us add value. We are incredibly excited about what this means for our team, our clients, and our ability to continue applying insights at scale. Most importantly, the resourceful humans at VEA do what they say and say what they do. This is incredibly rare but lays the cornerstone for the future we are building together.”
